Gladys Santiaguel
Visual Artist | Based in Sydney, Australia

Gladys is a self-taught artist whose work reflects a balance between calm and curiosity. Her art practice is intuitive and led by emotions. She stays present and appreciates small, beautiful changes. She primarily works with acrylic on canvas but also explores other materials that catch her interest. These include gouache, watercolor, colored pencil, ink, digital art and wood burning.

Art has been part of Gladys's life since childhood, but it became a deeper, more intentional pursuit after her medical retirement. During that time, art shifted from being a passion to something that anchored and healed her. It eventually became a daily ritual of presence, reflection, and gratitude. Her process focuses not on perfection or planning, but on listening and allowing each layer, mark, or shape to unfold naturally. She views the world through texture, rhythm and the quiet in-between. She believes beauty exists in the smudges, pauses and moments where color fades or settles unexpectedly.

Gladys is currently focused on making more abstract works with acrylic on canvas. She is looking for ways to add depth and complexity using a myriad of materials. As she develops a cohesive body of work, she is carving out her space in the contemporary art world through exhibitions and gallery opportunities. Her paintings offer anyone who views them a quiet invitation to pause, to feel and to reconnect with their own sense of wonder.

“I aim to make my work to feel like an exhale. There’s room to explore, shift direction and follow what feels right. ”
